Welcome messages from ACWECA
Welcome from the President of ACWECA introducing ACWECA and the Sisters Blended Value Project The Association of Consecrated Women in Eastern and Central Africa (ACWECA) covers 10 English Speaking Countries: Eritrea, Ethiopia, Sudan, South Sudan, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi and Zimbabwe (Associate member) with its Headquarters in Nairobi - Kenya. During the ACWECA 17th Plenary Assembly in August 2017, we were mandated to implement the Strategic Plan 2017 - 2022 with Four Thematic Areas - Leadership and Formation, Family and Youth Ministry, Justice and Peace and integrity of Creation, and Organizational Development and growth towards Sustainability. The Sisters Blended Value Project is born out of this last thematic area. This Project embraces different models that are blended together, i.e., Leadership skills, Formation, Business, Economic Development, Planning, Finance and Discernment among others. As we do this project, each participating Congregation is asked to come out with what they can do with their own resources, and expand this as a learning process. We encourage the lessons learnt through the project to be integrated and incorporated into other ministries that they have. The Pre-Pilot Project began with 11 Congregations from Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi and Zimbabwe, but it is now growing. Congregations are encouraged to work as a team for learning and growing together and at the end they become mentors of other Congregations and learning is in progress. ACWECA approached Miller Centre for Social Entrepreneurship to provide training and accompaniment in the Project. Miller Centre accepted this invitation, and with Hilton Foundation funding, we have developed the curriculum that is being shared with the Congregations (Institutes) who are nurturing Sister Social Entrepreneurs in their midst! ACWECA believes that with the launching of the Sisters Blended Value Project of ACWECA, will anchor the Social Enterprise movement in the Region and more broadly across Africa. The initiative will strengthen collaboration and networking with like-minded institutions/organisations within the Region and beyond to support Catholic Sisters to build up their Vision, Mission, Ministry, Infrastructure and committed personnel to enhance their ability in Social Enterprises while strengthening their organizational sustainability and profile within the people they serve. Under Sisters Blended Value Project, Sisters will improve their technical capacity in Social Entrepreneurship that will lead to increase Congregational Ministry stability and enhance their Capital Investment.
Sr. Cecilia Njeri LSOSF, President, Association of Consecrated Women of Eastern and Central Africa, and Superior, Little Sisters of St Francis (Jinja, Uganda)Welcome to the Discovery and Discernment program of the Sisters Blended Value Project (SBVP). These three modules will introduce some concepts like social entrepreneurship, business models and social impact. We want you to discover what social entrepreneurship is, and what it can do for your congregation and charism. At the same time, we invite your congregation to enter into a discernment process, to determine whether you are ready and able to invest the time and effort in this project. We hope that upon completing this curriculum you’ll be ready to apply to the next step in the SBVP.
ACWECA (the Association of Consecrated Women in Eastern and Central Africa) has invited your congregation to apply, and has asked your superior to identify a team of three Sisters to evaluate this opportunity. Please work together as a team of Sisters to complete homework and share it with me.
Each module will present a series of videos, and links and will contain some homework assignments. At the end of each module you will need to send to me, Sr. Celestine, the SBV project coordinator for ACWECA, the answers to the discernment questions.
If you have any questions along the way feel free to contact me.
